What is Youth Outdoor University?

The Grand Passage Sportsmen Club invites youth aged 10–19 to a FREE, hands-on learning adventure focused on trapping, 3-D archery, and animal tracking. This all-in-one event is packed with fun, education, and outdoor skills—updated and richer than ever from last year’s program.

Event Stations & Activities

1. Trapping Stations:
Visit multiple trapping setups—learn about box traps, snare stations, and steel-jaw traps (safely and under supervision). Our experienced instructors will walk youth through ethical placement, maintenance, and best practices for responsible use.

2. 3-D Archery Range:
Test your precision and form using lifelike 3-D targets in varied settings. Youth can bring their own bows or borrow ours. Instructors will guide proper stance, aiming techniques, and safety fundamentals.

3. Blood Tracking Experience:
Dive into an immersive tracking demo! Learn how to follow blood trails using realistic scenarios. This engaging activity helps teach patience, observation, and respect for the hunt.

Why Trapping Matters for Conservation

Trapping is more than just a skill—it’s an important wildlife management tool. By controlling predator populations, trapping helps balance ecosystems, protects vulnerable species like ground-nesting birds, and reduces the spread of disease. It also helps manage furbearer numbers to prevent overpopulation and habitat damage.

Youth will learn not only how traps work but also why they matter in the bigger picture of conservation, ethical hunting, and maintaining healthy wildlife populations.

Extra Highlights

Throughout the day, safety will be a top priority, and this will be part of all training.

There will be a free lunch for all participants sponsored by Stormin’ Norman’s BBQ.

Prizes & Giveaways: All participants will be entered for a chance to win exciting outdoor gear and prizes including 2 Lifetime Hunt/Fish combo, guns, bows, trapping supplies & many miscellaneous hunting items.
